Recently Airtel has blocked youtu.be, a short link service for youtube.com, specially used to share videos on social networking website like Facebook and Twitter.
Youtu.be blocked in India:-
Any Airtel Users who are trying to get access to youtu.be, they received this message:
“This website/URL has been block until further notice either pursuant to Court Orders or on the Directions issued by the Department of Telecommunications.”
However, the main YouTube.com is not blocked, you can use main website to watch the youtu.be videos by simply replacing the youtu.be to youtube.com/watch?v=
Possibly Airtel blocked youtu.be after the government order, to stop sharing inflammatory and hateful videos on social networking website.
According to labnol, Airtel has also implemented keyword-based filtering, and blocking all web pages that containing youtu.be anywhere in the URL.
Update:- Airtel has unblocked youtu.be, and issued the following statement: “This is an industry specific issue and not just restricted to Airtel. We can’t really comment on anything really specific but if you need comments it will be best if (you talk to) an industry body or the regulator talks about the same.”
