Rivalry between Apple and Microsoft is the eternal fight for market share and it’s crucial point might be happening right now. This rivalry began when “Mac vs. PC” ads appeared on television, when funny commercials used to compare Macintosh computers and PCs while highlighting Macs advantages. As a consequence, computer users started to be pro-Mac or pro-PC, which created an active dialogue between these groups of users on which computers are better.
Differences between these computers are not only in design or usability, because the differences are found deeply implemented into business philosophies of these companies. Market of digital goods is developing and changing very fast, so there can be only one place on the top. I was obvious that Windows was about to lose their leading positions since every hipster’s dream was to own anything with Apple logo on it, and 2011 seemed to be the best year for Apple so far. But what happened in early October was the turning point for The Great Tech Stand.
News about Steve Jobs’ death led to speculation if Apple is going to continue with its growth as it has been the case in previous decade. Many experts agree that today Apple has the power to endanger Microsoft which is one of the strongest companies in the world and the company which introduced us to digital age. Even though the philosophy which stands behind products made by Apple and Microsoft are different, they can greatly influence each other. There are also some products which are in direct fight for market share, like Microsoft’s Windows Phone 7 and Apple’s iPhone.
Steve Jobs was one of the people who directly initiated the development of iPhone, which has grown into a very serious device. Microsoft decided to take a step and compete with Apple’s market share by creating Windows Phone 7. This is one of the devices which is a direct consequence of competition between these two companies. Even though Steve Jobs is not with us anymore, his vision and legacy will continue to thrive. Experts say that Apple has plans for up to three next generations of it’s products, which is one of the proof of Jobs’ vision for the future. We can surely expect that Microsoft is going to continue the fight for the market share by developing its Windows Phone.
It is a known fact that Windows 8 is scheduled to be released sometime next year. We can expect that Windows Phone 8 could be introduced as well, attacking some of the iPhone’s current features. Still, as you probably know, main difference between Apple’s and Microsoft’s products is that Apple’s products are made by software and hardware engineers and industrial designers working under the same roof. This is not the case with Microsoft’s products and it also refers to Windows Phone 7. Software code is being developed by Microsoft, but hardware is being designed and built by third-party manufacturers. There are no plans to change this and Microsoft thinks this is the path to success.
In the meantime, there is iPhone 4S which breaks every record in sales. According to newest information, Steve Jobs was not involved in development of this phone, but he was pretty much occupied with the next generation that will set up new standards of mobile devices once again.
