Today Wikipedia founder Jimmy Wales announced on twitter that the site will close for 24 hours on Wednesday to protest against SOPA (Stop Online Privacy Act).
“Student Warning! Do your homework early. Wikipedia protesting bad law on Wednesday!” Jimmy Wales posted on Twitter.
He also twitted that, ” comScore Estimated the English Wikipedia receives 25 million average daily visitors globally.”
On the another tweet Jimy wales write, “This is going to be wow. I hope Wikipedia will melt phone systems in Washington on Wednesday. Tell everyone you know.”
Now on Wednesday Wikipedia joins with the Reddit, WordPress, Mozilla for “black out” protest, During the shutdown Wikipedia pages will be replaced with instructions on how to reach out to your local US members of congress.
